What is a wiki?
A wiki is a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites. The collaborative encyclopedia
is one of the best-known wikis. Wikis are used in business also to provide intranet and Knowledge Management systems.
What can you do?
You can help. Don't be afraid to edit—anyone can edit, and we encourage you to be bold! Find something that can be improved, either in content, grammar or formatting, and fix it. Anything can be fixed or improved later. So go ahead, edit, and help make this Wiki assignment the best learning center for our course, contribute with your own efforts to perfect it!
When you edit pages there is an edit toolbar at the top of the edit window. The toolbar provides one-click access to common editing tasks such as creating bold text.
If you are new to Wikis, just type and add plain text. Your knowledge and ideas are the most important contribution. Other participants will help to format your text. In fact, since this is a wiki, you should expect all of your contributions to be altered and improved by others! Likewise, you are also encouraged to modify and improve other people’s content and contributions.
You can start a new page
An easy way to create a new page is to think of a descriptive name for a topic, hit New and type it into the Page Name box that appears on top of the page. If you selected a name that is not being used, you will see a blank window where you can begin typing your page.
But make sure to plan ahead! Page names are extremely important and un-doing mistakes can take time, so it's always a good idea to do a little homework first.
It is good practice to look at the Site Navigation panel first before creating a new page. You may find that there is already an existing page about the topic you are interested in.
While you are encouraged to post as much content as you possibly can, it is important to keep track of where information comes from, especially if taken from a book or another website. You are encouraged to include footnotes if your contribution comes from a book or another printed source. If you take images or some content from another website, do include a link to the original site for further clarification.
Lastly, you are giving away ownership rights over any ideas, images and content in general that you post in this Wiki. That is, you cannot claim any part into present or future use of the content uploaded in this site.
